El acuerdo voluntario es un método cuya efectividad está probada para reducir el desperdicio alimentario. Mediante el trabajo conjunto para la consecución de objetivos comunes, las organizaciones pueden colaborar y generar cambios de una forma más efectiva y eficiente. A través de ejemplos prácticos que forman parte de los programas nacionales de REFRESH, así como el exitoso proyecto WRAP de Inglaterra, incluyendo el acuerdo Courtauld 2025, esta guía establece los pasos necesarios para el diseño de acuerdos voluntarios exitosos.
El 11 de diciembre de 2018 se celebró el 4º encuentro de la Plataforma REFRESH española en la sede de CREDA-UPC-IRTA en Barcelona. Teniendo en cuenta que quedan 6 meses para el final del proyecto, se presentaron los resultados más importantes del proyecto a nivel europeo y se hizo una evaluación de la evolución de la plataforma, que desarrolló 30 iniciativas en 2017.

The United Nations estimates that if farmers around the world fed their livestock on the food that we currently waste and on agricultural by-products, enough grain would be liberated to feed an extra three billion people. To help food businesses contribute to such a grand waste-free future, REFRESH has built a web app for businesses to clarify which surplus food is suitable, and what needs to be done to send the food to animal feed in a safe and legal way.
Durante las próximas tres semanas de julio, REFRESH estará recopilando respuestas a una encuesta a consumidores. El objetivo es estudiar los diferentes formatos de información encontrados en los productos alimenticios, y los efectos que tienen en el comportamiento del consumidor. La encuesta se centra en los cuatro países piloto de REFRESH: Países Bajos, Alemania, España y Hungría.
Como proyecto piloto de la plataforma española REFRESH, Gastrofira, el servicio de catering de Fira Barcelona, está colaborando con CREDA-UPC-IRTA para reducir el desperdicio alimentario generado en su actividad.
