In October 2017 the REFRESH Community of Experts (CoE) will be launched at refreshcoe.eu. The CoE is a digital platform for sharing initiatives and best practice on food waste prevention. Users of the CoE will be able to find and share research and resources, initiate discussions and connect with fellow experts. Food waste experts are invited to share their expertise and resources.

The contest, "Sustainable Development and Our Food – Reducing Food Waste: China Youth Environmental Protection Originality Contest", took place in China. Nearly a thousand innovative works by Chinese pupils reached the organizing committee, varying in forms like videos, paintings, photos, articles, etc. Ten works each were appraised and selected from primary schools and secondary schools.

This one day conference will serve to disseminate successful European Research and Innovation (R&I) initiatives and contribute to the ongoing science-policy dialogue in the area of Food Nutrition and Security.

Total Food 2017, held in Norwich from 31 October to 2 November, attracted a mix of industrialists and academics from across the world and discussed food waste at all levels of the food use hierarchy. The event featured a number of plenary lectures from REFRESH partners and was organized by the Quadram Institute Bioscience.

German radio station SWR explores research and innovation to reduce food waste, featuring an interview with REFRESH researcher Stephanie Wunder on REFRESH's contribution to food waste reduction.

The Consumer Goods Forum leads the Sustainable Retail Summit to catalyze collaborative and action-oriented work towards long-term sustainable growth in the consumer goods industry. The focuses of the Summit are strategies for reducing food waste, eradicating forced labour, and supporting healthier living.

This brochure describes the interim results of the REFRESH (Resource Efficient Food and dRink for the Entire Supply cHain) project through May 2017. REFRESH’s research into the behaviours, economics, and relationships that lead to food waste will inform future recommendations into efficient and versatile solutions to food waste at all levels of its production.

Champions 12.3 is a coalition of high-level stakeholders dedicated to mobolizing action on SDG 12.3 on food waste. Activities in mid-2017 included conferences, media outreach, awards, and speeches at key stakeholder events. 

The EU-funded project Strategies to Reduce Food Waste in Central Europe (STREFOWA) will be hosting its second of five Food Waste Hackathons in Poland June 23-25.
