The production of food results in by-products. Instead of disposing them as waste, they can also be valorised into new products. This quiz lets you find out what new products can be made from this food waste. The player scrolls two image galleries and chooses two pictures that correspond as food waste and new product. When clicking 'submit' the player is informed whether the assignment was correct. There are eight possible pairs to be found.

FoodWasteEXplorer is an online, searchable database of food waste compositional data. It allows users to search for nutrients, bioactives, toxicants and other waste related data in specific side streams.

The “FoodWasteEXplorer” is an online database that provides industry, SME, researchers, government agencies and the general public with access to the biochemical composition of agri-food chain waste streams. This information can be used to identify the level of certain compounds in different side streams so that the user can explore how food waste may be better managed and helps to identify market opportunities. Use of the FoodWasteEXplorer is free-of-charge and can be accessed at: ws.eurofir.org/foodwasteexplorer

The Food Waste Fest is the main food waste innovation event of the year. FoodWIN will celebrate and share successful solutions to food waste. Although food waste is a complex and regretful problem, this day proves there are ways forward.

The final REFRESH conference that took place on May 10, 2019 in the Disseny Hub Barcelona brought together 150 participants from all across Europe, China, Australia and the US to present and discuss innovative ideas for food waste reduction and valorisation options across the whole supply chain.

The final REFRESH workshop discussed options and recommendations to integrate policies for food waste in the broader contexts of sustainable food systems and the Circular Economy. Finicky eating habits and wasteful processes have led to a system that discards millions of tonnes of food each year, but new approaches are salvaging the scraps we never see to make products that people will want to eat. The EU Research & Innovation Magazine HORIZON published an article on how innovations from REFRESH and other projects offer different possibilities to valorise by-products from food production.
