How can each one of us, through drinking a smoothie, do its part to improve our environmental impact and become an “acting consumer”? Join 2nd Life: this initiative aims at creating a positive impact on the environment, by offering smoothies and soups, as a smart way to fight against food waste. At 2nd Life, we strongly believe that only the collective strength will make the difference to improve our environmental impact. Second life has been created by a Danone employee, who believes that waste fighting is the duty of everyone of us, and that today the messages and solutions conveyed are full of guiltiness. Second Life does 3 things: 1/ Daily, we collect all the unsold fruits, vegetables and yogurts from our retail network thanks to a partnership with local foodbanks. 2/ The “unsolds” are cooked and pasteurized by people in rehabilitation programs, to give them a second life: They become delicious soups and smoothies. 3/They are sold in retail in beautiful recycled glass jars on which 10% of benefits are given back to foodbanks. It creates impact towards shoppers and consumers: inspiring households to do the same at home thanks to great cooking recipes on the back label.

It turns the "regular" boring ingredients lists to a nice cooking recipe.Long term: We want to collect recipes and create cooking workhops to learn to cook the "waste", a typical knowledge that our grands parents had, and that we lost today!

BEFORE: 53% of Fruits and Vegetables are "wasted" along the food chain : from it, 9% are discarted at retailers/ 19% are uneaten at homes.
AFTER: Unsold fruits and vegetables from the retail networks are collected back:
We expect 0% discarted at retail, and a signigicant decreas at home from 19% to 10%.Hopefully in 50 years households will be totlly educated and no more waste will exist! (And my project neither!)
