The “Night of the Market” event was organized for the second time, during which, for one night, the Budapest Wholesale Market was open to public. The first anniversary of the cooperation with the Food Bank was also celebrated at the event.
At the press conference organized for the event, Zoltán Házi, Chief Executive Officer of the Budapest Wholesale Market, spoke about their successes so far and plans for the future. In the CEO’s words, "We would like more people to know about the Budapest Wholesale Market. In 2017 alone, over 460,000 tonnes of goods went through the market. Our main goal is to further increase the domestic consumption of vegetables and fruits.”
At the “Night of the Market”, the Food Bank was again there to help; volunteers of the Charity Kitchen (JótéKonyha) cooked and spread a delicious meal for the workers on the market, and celebrated the first anniversary of the cooperation between the association and the market. This year, Anikó Nádai and Márk Lakatos also helped us to cook.
"We are very grateful to the Budapest Wholesale Market for providing us with the opportunity and free space for the operation of our container for food surplus disposal. Up until now, we received goods worth 15 million HUF at the Market, while we had the chance to be acquainted and get into direct contact with producers. Fresh vegetables and fruits represent a great help to the people we support" said Balázs Cseh, president of the Hungarian Food Bank Association.
