Between September 28 and 29, 2017 the first Food Waste Hackathon was organized in Miskolc, by the Bay Zoltán Applied Research Nonprofit Ltd. During the event the enthusiastic participants had to design an application or web-page that can help to mitigate the amount of food waste along the entire food chain.
An application to reduce food waste
The teams of five or six people got only two days for the design of the applications.
In the professional jury SPAR Hungary Kft., Szinva Net Zrt., and the members of ‘Without Leftover” project have also been given the opportunity to evaluate the ideas.
By using the winner’s application, buyers can get some information about the expiration date for each of the department stores' products and potential discounts already from home, so they can build their shopping list more environmentally and economically.
