The EU launched the Platform on Food Losses and Food Waste (FLW) that aims to support the EU and its Member States in contributing to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) target 12.3 to halve per capita food waste at the retail and consumer level by 2030, and reduce food losses along the food production and supply chain.
The Platform is responsible for supporting all actors in:
- defining measures needed to prevent food waste;
- sharing best practice;
- evaluating progress made over time.
The Platform brings together public entities including Member States, EU bodies and international organisations and actors in the food value chain including consumer – and other non-governmental organizations. Public entities are invited by the Commission to join the Platform as members while private entities were selected through a prior application process that closed in May 2016.
