The IVL Swedish Environmental Research Institute organizes a camp for youth from China to raise young people’s awareness about food waste. The camp includes visits to various locations within the whole food supply chain, covering food production, food transportation, food re-distribution, food consumption (in restaurants and at home) and food treatment.
A youth camp in the context of REFRESH actions to raise awareness and spur behaviour change in China
In 2017, the EU research project REFRESH initiated a multi-stakeholder conference in China. Youth were identified as one of the most relevant and important target groups and therefore "pilot actions" are being implemented focusing on youth, such as awareness raising lectures and trips as well as events, including a Chinese nation-wide contest and summer camps. Through these actions, REFRESH’s Chinese partners introduced the REFRESH project to the Chinese public and provided knowledge about the occurrence of food waste along the entire supply chain. The actions emphasize the importance of food waste reduction and food waste’s environmental impact.
These actions helped REFRESH achieve an increased awareness of food waste and behavior changes among participants in China.
The camp brings youth from China to the Nordic region to learn about food waste in August 2018. Reporting on further actions in China will follow in September 2018.
